Essay #4--Example Outline with Comments

Parag1

Subject: (What ad/ads?) Chevy – Like a rock

Issue: (Essay Question) Why should people buy a truck, and how is related to being like a rock?

Thesis: What makes a Chevy pick-up truck like a rock?

I THINK THE ESSAY QUESTION SHOULD BE MORE LIKE THIS:

WE SEE THESE TRUCK ADS FOR CHEVY ALL THE TIME--THE QUESTION IS WHETHER
WE CAN CONSIDER THEIR ADVERTIZING TECHNIQUES TO BE PROPAGANDA?

ARE CHEVY ADS GOING OVER THE LINE AND REALLY CASES OF PROPAGANDA?

Thesis: ?
YOUR THESIS IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING LIKE--YES THIS IS PROPAGANDA? OR
NO, THIS IS NOT PROPAGANDA?

IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE A GOOD APPROACH TO THE ESSAY.  YOU HAVE PICKED ONE GROUP OF ADS OR AD CAMPAIGN AND YOU ARE SHOWING THREE PROGANDA TECHNIQUES INSIDE THAT SINGLE TYPE OF AD.
GOOD.

Parag2

PSupport#1: (Ad/Technique #1): Testimonial
1. Quote #1 that defines/describes propaganda technique
“Simular to the transfer decivce, the testimonial capitalizes on the admiratin people have for a celebrity to make the product shine more brigtly-even though the celebrity in not an expert on the product being sold.”

2. Quote #2 that defines/describes propaganda technique
”We like the person so much that we like the product too.”

1a. Feature/Aspect #1 of Ad that matches definition/description of propganda technique
Chevy has celebrities drive there car to get people to buy a certin brand, because of a famous singer is driving one as well
 2a. Feature/Aspect #2 of Ad that matches
People start to belive that because a celebrity likes this product a lot so will they!
3a. Feature/Aspect #3 of Ad that matches
Chevy plays popular country songs that are popular in the texas country setting to catch the eye of the buyers.

I LIKE YOUR QUOTES!

BE SPECIFIC!  WHO? WHICH AD?
GEORGE STRAIT?

CAN YOU NAME A SONG SPECIFICALLY? (DON'T THE ADS MAKE THEIR OWN SONGS?)

Parag3

PSupport#2: (Ad/Technique #2): Bandwagon

1.Quote #1 that defines/describes propaganda technique
In the Bandwagon technique, advertisers presure,”Everyone’s doing it.  Why don’t you?”

2. Quote #2 that defines/describes propaganda technique
“The advertisers know we tend to feel comfortable doing what others do; we want to be on the winning team.”
2.         1a. Feature/Aspect #1 of Ad that matches definition/description of propganda technique

People feel as thought if they don’t do what eveyone else is doing they don’t feel as though they will fit in or be accepted.

2a. Feature/Aspect #2 of Ad that matches
Its very good to have a comercial that is aming toward’s teen-agers that want to drive a BIG pick-up.  Since there friends and there fathers drive a big truck they want to have one to.
3a. Feature/Aspect #3 of Ad that matches
Chevy will add cattle guards, headach racks, and big tires, are a feature that some competors like to add as a specialty to sell there product faster.  They add little features that other trucks have, that the (cowboy’s or men want)

YOU CAN MENTION THAT THE TESTIMONIAL AND BANDWAGON GO TOGETHER.  SINCE GEORGE STRAIT HAS A CHEVY, THEN I'LL GET ONE TOO.  I'LL JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON WITH HIM.  I THINK, THOUGH, WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR HERE IS THEIR CLAIM TO BE "THE #1 SELLING TRUCK IN TEXAS" OR SOME CLAIM ABOUT HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE BUYING THIS TRUCK OR LIKING IT SO WHY SHOULDN'T YOU.

IS THERE SOMETHING VISUALLY IN THE AD THAT SHOWS LOTS OF PEOPLE DOING WHAT THE AD WANTS?

DO ANY ADS SHOW YOUNG PEOPLE?

WHAT ACCESSORIES ARE SHOWN BY THE AD

Parag4

PSupport#3: (Ad/Technique #3):Card Stacking

1.  Quote #1 that defines/describes propaganda technique
“Advertisers often stack the cards in favor of the products they are pushing”
2. Quote #2 that defines/describes propaganda technique
”Sticker prices 1,000 lower then most comparable cars.”
3.
1a. Feature/Aspect #1 of Ad that matches definition/description of propganda technique
Chevy emphises on how great, tough, and heavy duty there trucks are.  Many people in
Texas want a big, loud, and heavy duty truck.  They make it seem like it’s like the platimum one out of all.
2a. Feature/Aspect #2 of Ad that matches
Price is a big factor when buying anything.  They are always trying to put deals on there
trucks in order for them to sell more.  For an example, when they were giving everyone the employee discount.
3a. Feature/Aspect #3 of Ad that matches
Chevy addvertisers uses a lot of rocks in the back of the bed to show you how stong it can be.  They use this to emphises there logan “Like a ROCK”.

YOU SEEM A BIT OFF BASE HERE.  CARD STACKING IS SORT OF HARD TO SEE.  SBC/YAHOO DSL SAYING YOU CAN GET IT FOR $19.95 A MONTH IS "CARD STACKING."  (THE FINE PRINT INFORMS YOU THAT AFTER SIX MONTHS OR A YEAR YOU REALLY PAY $49.00 A MONTH).  THAT IS CARD STACKING. INCOMPLETE INFORMATION AND TWISTING THE INFORMATION.

SO HERE YOU WILL LOOK FOR SOME INFORMATION THAT IS INCOMPLETE OR TWISTED A BIT TO MAKE THEM LOOK A CERTAIN WAY--IF YOU HAD ALL THE INFORMATION THE MESSAGE MIGHT BE VERY DIFFERENT.

I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE CURRENT SECONDARY SUPPORT YOU HAVE?
Parag5

Conclusion: (analysis/conclusions)
Even thought there are many different different aspects when it comes to selling a Chevy truck.  In the end many people follow in other fotsteps of others.  Either it is a celecbirty, role model, or friend.  But one thing is for sure Chevy does a good job of selling there products using bandwagon, cardstacking, and testimonal propagandas.
